An Introduction to Tramadol
Tramadol is probably one of the most popular pain relieving drugs available
in the market these days. It is actually an analgesic drug, which is used to
treat and relieve pain. It is quite useful when it comes to alleviating mild
to severe pains in the human body. It is an opioid, which is the common type
of drug used in the treatment of pain for a long time now. The most popular
opioid drug in the market today is morphine, which is used both as a
recreational drug and as an analgesic in case of severe pain. However, unlike
morphine, it is not a highly potent opioid which is considered an advantage.
Due to its mild nature, the history of drug abuse as far as Tramadol is very
low, when compared to that of the abuse history of morphine. As morphine is
highly potent, it is taken for alleviating severe pains and when used for a
particular period of time regularly, patients get addicted to it, which can
result in serious problems. But in case of Tramadol, it is just around 10% as
potent as morphine, so the number of abuse cases is considerably low. In fact,
this is the reason why it can be bought with a normal prescription, unlike
other opioid drugs. Most of the other opioid drugs are considered strictly
prescription medications or in some cases even controlled substances and are
available only with a prescription. So, Tramadol is usually considered a safe
medication for a lot of pain related problems.
